New Training Band Conductor Appointed

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Olivia Hurst as Musical Director of our Training band.

Olivia is a 20 year old cornet player who actually started her senior brass banding journey in 2017 here in our senior band on fourth man down. Olivia progressed up the front row, and in 2021 was made principal cornet of our band. During this time, Olivia had also progressed through the ranks of the Lancashire Youth Brass Band to the principal cornet chair, and from September 2024 she returned as their cornet tutor. She has also been a member of the The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. In November 2022, Olivia accepted the offer to join championship section band, Longridge Band where she still plays now, however she continued to come here and help our training band, and still regularly deps for the senior band too.

Olivia is about to begin her third year of studies at RNCM – Royal Northern College of Music, studying with Dr Roger Webster and Richard Marshall. Olivia said she has throughly enjoyed her trial period with the training band over the past eight weeks, and cannot wait to see the band flourish and grow even more. The training band represents the foundation that the Lostock Hall Memorial band is built on with many of the main band players having progressed from the training band.

The training band is going from strength to strength and the ranks have swelled during the last two months with members from all ages and abilities joining and with Olivia’s drive and determination in this key role the future looks bright.
