2025 Band Awards

The Players’ Player Award

The Players’ Player Award is special because it’s chosen by the people who truly know what goes on: the bandmates who’ve heard every glorious solo, every questionable rehearsal note, and every “I definitely practised at home”
This year’s winner is someone who shows up, works hard, lifts spirits, They’re supportive, reliable, and may or may not be responsible for half the laughter during rehearsals.
Your fellow players have voted, and the result is clear: Jake Leech-Sanders

Progress

Next award something truly special: progress. Because while talent is wonderful, and experience is valuable, nothing beats the determination and hard work that go into becoming a better musician.
The Most Improved Player award recognises someone who has shown exceptional growth over the year—someone who didn’t just turn up, but put in the effort and practice.
This award isn’t just about playing more notes, faster notes, or louder notes. It’s about commitment. It’s about pushing boundaries. It’s about that moment when a player realises, “Oh wow, I can do this!”
This year’s recipient has shown all of that and more. They have stepped up, worked hard, taken on challenges, and made noticeable strides in confidence, ability, and musicianship. Their section has noticed it, as has the band
So it gives me great pleasure to announce that the Most Improved Player for this year is, Jodie Cocker.

Service to the Band

Service to the Band, Every band relies on more than just musicianship. Behind the music, behind every rehearsal, every performance, and every successful moment, there are people who quietly put in time, energy, and heart to make the band what it is
It is about dedication, reliability, and the countless things—big and small—that keep the band moving forward.
There are so may people who were considered for this award and it would be remiss not to mention just a few
Charlotte – Band Manager
Ian – Contest Secretary
Cathryn – Engagement Secretary & Treasurer
This year’s recipient is not just a valued member of the band… they’re also our Safeguarding Officer. Which basically means they’re the one who keeps us all on the straight and narrow, reminds us to behave, and probably has more paperwork than the rest of us combined
She also supports Olivia Tutoring and Mentoring, in Training band , as well as Narrating the bands performance in the recent Red Admiral Entertainments contest( in which the band came 3rd)
This person doesn’t look for recognition. They just get on with it—calmly, reliably, and always with a sense of humour. They’re supportive, they’re dedicated, and they’re exactly the type of person every band wishes they had
The award goes to….. Fiona Weaver

Overall Player of the Year

Overall Player of the Year, This award recognises not only exceptional musical talent, but also dedication, teamwork, consistency, and the spirit that makes our band what it is.
Each year, this decision becomes harder and harder. Our band is full of committed musicians who give their time, skill, and passion to every rehearsal, concert, and contest. We are fortunate to have a fantastic blend of talented musicians both young and old (and we can highlight this when we look at third cornet where young Henry has joined from training band and there is over 65 years age gap between him and his fellow 3rd cornet player). But this year’s recipient has truly stood out.
There has been some outstanding concerts contests and marches this year (where the band has performed in truly amazing weather conditions from Monsoon to Heat waves) and standards have been amazing throughout
Not only has this player excelled on the cornet he has also stepped up in the last month to Soprano cornet a truly exposed position within the band, a position he has simply taken in his stride.
